Ana Navarro-Cárdenas Nicaraguan by birth. American by choice. Miamian by luck. I talk politics on @cnn. Co-host-ish @theviewabc. I oppose despots- foreign & domestic. 🇺🇸

Hana St. Juliana was 14. Madisyn Baldwin was 17. Tate Myre was 16. Justin Shilling was 17. How many more kids have to die before Congress frees itself from the grip of the bloody NRA and acts on sensible gun reform? They are paid for and being held hostage by that corrupt organization where everyone has lined their pockets while kids keep getting killed. This is a uniquely American problem and national shame.

I ❤️ it. “Only in Miami” Christmas display, celebrating our diverse community. Mrs. Claus, sporting a guayabera, holding a Cuban cafetera and cafecito cup…and apparently, in a biracial marriage with what I think is a Black Santa Claus. Could use some cocoa-butter. He looks a little ashy. 🎄

All my fancy, artsy-fartsy friends are in Miami for Art Basel, attending exhibitions, fashion-shows, parties, concerts, yachting on Biscayne Bay. Meanwhile, this is my current situation. Cuz priorities are priorities.

Today is my daddy’s birthday. At almost 50, I adore him just as much as I did when I was a little girl (though we had a few rough patches in between. LOL). He and my mom have been married 60 years. They really took the “for better or worse” thing seriously. He’s been the love of her life. It’s been so touching to see his dedication and love for her as she goes through this difficult last chapter. About that….folks, I don’t know what to tell you or what to think anymore. We’ve been expecting my mom to pass for over a week. My family has shed enough tears to water the Sahara. She hadn’t eaten or drunk anything for a week and was pretty much comatose. Then, yesterday she opened her eyes and started eating a little and moving a little. I don’t understand and don’t want to get my hopes up. But my dad is elated and calling it his “birthday miracle”. It’s all up to God. For those who’ve prayed and kept our family in your thoughts, thank you.

The Right Wing has a clinical obsession with Kamala. This week, the manufactured scandal they’re pretending to be outraged about, is that Kamala bought a copper pan. Yes, the hypocrites who support the very frugal Trumps (ha!) are pissed Kamala bought a nice piece of cookware. Melania pretending to eat diamonds like it was spaghetti is great. Kamala buying a pot she is actually going to cook with is bad. I bet they’d have no damn issue if she’d spent $2,000 on an AR-15!

Don’t forget to be thankful for the people -many of them immigrants- who’ve broken their back working so all of us can celebrate.

Today, I’m feeling thankful that last year, despite COVID scares and many difficulties, Al & I traveled to Nicaragua to spend Thanksgiving with my mom and dad. As she reaches the end of her life, I am thankful I have had a great mother, well into my adulthood. Not everyone does. If you are one of the lucky ones who still has parents in good health, be thankful and don’t take it for granted. Make every moment count. Sending everyone love this Thanksgiving.

At least one Judge and at least one jury in America haven’t lost their damn mind and have a moral compass. These three….I wonder how long and dirty their nails are gonna get in prison.

This is a beautiful and poignant explanation of embracing grief. I really needed to hear it, right now.

Friends, my mom is a woman of enormous faith. She’s been particularly devoted to St. Jude her whole life. If you are the praying kind and can spare a prayer, please lift her in prayer, that she rests and finds peace. My family is going through a sad and very difficult time. Thank you.

As my mom’s health continues to rapidly decline, this photo memory of the last Christmas we all spent together, popped up on my IPad. I had forgotten about this. I’m taking it as a sign from above to remember her happy and surrounded by the family she’s given all her unconditional love to.

Was having such a bad day yesterday. Got more bad news about my mom’s health. It’s so heart-breaking. And then, my brother-from-another-mother, georgelopez, showed-up to give me a hug and make me smile. Like the song says, “that’s what friends are for”.💚
